Upfront confession: I am a bit of a spa snob. So when I first heard I’d be spending a day at The Spring Resort & Spa, I wasn’t overly enthusiastic, but rather I simply looked forward to one of many spa days I enjoy throughout the year. What I was looking forward to most was spending the day with some of my favourite women in the world, celebrating my best friends upcoming wedding. If only I had known what awaited me, I would have looked forward to spending time with them elsewhere, because I was in my own personal bliss at this spa.
We arrived at the spa at noon, as the first of our treatments began at 1pm and they recommend arriving one hour beforehand to enjoy their mineral pools and the spa amenities. Confession number two: when I heard we were going to use the mineral pools, my thought was ‘so what’? We would sit in water that felt like normal water, yet for some reason marvel that it was ‘special water’. I’ve always rolled my eyes at the concept of this, it seemed so ludicrous that people actually bought into the idea of it being a luxury. So imagine my surprise as I lowered my body into the 101degC water and my skin instantly began to feel like silk. I don’t know if it was the mineral water itself or if there was something added to the water, but all I know is it was incredible. The water felt like it was working wonders on my skin, and as someone who has dry skin on their legs in the winter season, my skin felt so smooth for days afterwards. I can honestly say that had I only had access to the spa amenities for the day and didn’t have any treatments, it would have been a day well spent.
Just before 1pm, the woman who would be doing my one hour massage and half hour head treatment came out to collect me. She immediately seemed different from any massage therapist I’ve encountered. There was a genuine warmth about her that makes you feel instantly comfortable. I undressed and got into the bed where I would spend the next hour and a half in complete bliss. Generally I go with the RMT massages, however for this day I had booked what I thought of as ‘just an aromatherapy massage’. I was so wrong. This ended up being the best massage I have ever had. With the sweet smell of lavender heavily incorporated, gentle reminders to breathe deep from the belly, and soothing vision statements of energy flowing through the chakras, everything about it was absolutely perfect. The monkey mind so many of us have that wander from thought to thought while we relax was nowhere to be found. My mind genuinely went into a state of relaxation like I’ve never had before. The head treatment I had was woven in throughout the massage, as aloe gels soaked into my bleached hair and replenished moisture to my scalp. I would highly recommend both treatments for anyone who may find themselves fortunate enough to be at this spa. I remember thinking to myself when my treatments were over and I had yet to get up ‘this lady is actually magic’. Not a statement I take lightly!
With a tea and honey in hand once my treatments were over, I found my way to my friends who also had glowing reviews of their treatments, which ranged from body wraps to facials to migraine massages. We snacked on a fruit tray and then used the outdoor 104degC mineral pool. The entire day was perfection to the point that I, someone who refuses to do the same thing twice, would go back for one of their multi-day retreats. I highly recommend this spa for anyone considering going.
